Official Payments Corp. | Design Director |  May 2000 - July 2002
Design Director for e-commerce enabled website for processing transactions to government agencies. Payment types included income taxes, real estate & property taxes, utilities, and other municiple fees. [ www.officialpayments.com ]
  • Developed overall visual presentation including functionality & site architecture. Managed staff of four designers.
  • Worked as creative liaison between office and government agencies, directed engineering for back-end functionality, and consulted internal departments on new features.
  • Oversaw site testing, integration of new software/hardware with existing systems, and trained staff on new procedures.
  • Awarded Federal authorization by passing audit requirements for security. By 2002, website could process 2000 unique payments to I.R.S., 21 states & 1,200 local municipalities.
  • In 2001, OPC processed over over $15 million online and during 2002, transactions grew 30% with profits of $25 million.

Stock Market Photo Agency | Media Director | May 1997 - May 2000 Director of multimedia department for stock photography agency. Products included interactive CD-ROMs and website that provided image searching, purchase, and download.

  • Designed interfaces, supervised software programming, digital imaging, and managed engineering, production and customer support. Oversaw staff of nine.
  • Supervised engineering for cross-platform functionality, database development, and proprietary image delivery systems. All products were translated into multiple languages for offices including unique collections specific to each culture.
  • Developed methods of image delivery through digital transfer on both ZIP discs/CD-ROMs and online. All licensing payments were handled via e-commerce. Within two years of launching, 30% of worldwide sales were processed online.
  • Promoted from Internet Technology Manager to New Media Director in August of 1999.

PC Magazine CD | Art Director | March 1995 - May 1997
Art Director for the development of multimedia CD's published as expanded & interactive companions to bi-monthly printed magazine.

  • Designed all interactive functionality, GUI design, and video/animation production. Hired vendors, negotiated contracts, maintained budgets and managed staff.
  • Worked directly with editors to conceptualize multimedia components and supervised production.
  • Directed engineers with specific programming and coordinated cd-to-online integration to further expand brand identity.
  • Designed and produced all print materials for retail and subscription packaging using Quark, Photoshop & Illustrator. Utilized extensive HTML/JavaScript coding, Director/Shockwave tutorials, and custom multimedia components using multiple programming languages.
  • During 1995 - 1997, PC Mag. CD was produced in nine fully interactive multimedia issues at a circulation run of 100,000.

PC Magazine | Senior Art Director | July 1993 - March 1995
Senior Art Director of design team producing editorial feature layout for bi-monthly technical publication.

  • Created sophisticated editorial layouts to visually convey technical data acquired from extensive in-house, lab-based testing environment (PC Labs).
  • Assigned photography & conceptual illustration, and supervised layout department for stringent design implementation.
  • Spearheaded magazine production methods into full-integration of page-layout using desktop publishing environment which reduced both production costs and allowed for additional editorial development time.
  • Initiated digital photography department, digital page transfer to print production, and in-house scanning with high-resolution color proofing methods.
  • Promoted to Art Director of PC Magazine CD in March of 1995.

Travel Agent Magazine | Art Director | March 1991 - May 1993
Art Director for weekly trade publication that focused on current issues and trends within the world-wide travel industry.

  • Designed all magazine covers, editorial presentations, and managed nine member staff with layout direction.
  • Developed new visual identity for magazine and implemented production to a Mac-based desktop publishing environment.
  • Converted production to "Desktop Publishing" environment that included; computer-based layout, digital photography, and electronic file transfer. Achievements greatly reduced printing costs and extended editorial deadline.
  • Monitored production costs & budgets, hired staff, managed personnel reviews & salaries, and recommended new computer hardware/software purchases.
  • Weekly circulation ran at 50,000 issues at start of hire which increased to 75,000 per week by May of 1993. Editorial page count increased from 48 to over 100 per issue.

Work ranged from building mechanicals to producing comps and creating illustrations. During this time, I first successfully began using computers (Macs) to produce electronic files.

Designer and technical coordinator for architectural sign company specializing in custom high-profile corporate and industrial signage.

  • Produced presentation drawings for sales department and created working drawings for final fabrication.
  • Coordinated design methods for specific government approval.
  • Researched and supervised the purchase of drafting equipment and new manufacturing materials.
  • Managed three member art department.
  • Achievements include work for Raleigh/Durham International Airport, the North Carolina Zoo, Duke University campus, and many corporate offices within the Research Triangle Park.
